Because heating and cooling a house accounts for 56 percent of energy use in a typical U.S. home*, zone heating with a high-efficiency gas fireplace is an effective way to decrease utility bills.

The Home, Barbeque and Patio Association states that zone heating can reduce energy costs by 20 to 40 percent. With zone heating, heat is restricted to the most frequently used parts of the home helping to keep heating expenses down. The homeowner turns down the thermostat for the central furnace and uses a gas fireplace to zone heat areas of the home that are most frequently used.

Heatilator fireplaces can take these energy savings even farther by using less fuel. According to Kathy Repp, Heatilator brand manager, the recently introduced Heatilator Novus nXt gas fireplace is highly efficient in annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) ratings. The Novus nXt has been designed to help homeowners control their heating costs by utilizing the fireplace as a supplemental heat source, she said. Because it has been tested and listed with an AFUE rating, its perfect for the homeowner looking for an affordable hearth system that can save them money on heating costs throughout the year.

Heatilator hearth systems promote air quality through the use of direct vent gas, electric and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved wood-burning fireplaces. The company does not manufacture or sell hearth systems that contribute to unhealthy indoor air, such as unvented or vent-free fireplaces that expel combustion products into the room.

Dependable Heatilator fireplaces meet the guidelines established by the U.S. Green Building Councils (USGBC) LEED for Homes and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Standards for sustainable building practices.
